Congratulations to Dr. Biqi Wang on Earning Her Ph.D.!

The Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) proudly congratulates Dr. Biqi Wang on the successful defense of her doctoral dissertation under the guidance of her advisor, Rolando Burgos. Her accomplishment reflects years of dedication, innovation, and impactful research within the CPES community.
Reflecting on her experience, Dr. Wang shared, “My experience at CPES has been incredibly rewarding. Guided by outstanding professors—especially my advisor Dr. Rolando Burgos—and surrounded by talented colleagues, CPES provided me with an inspiring environment to grow as a researcher and engineer.”
Dr. Wang’s dissertation, “Advanced Grid-Interface Three-Phase Converters: Grid-Support Capabilities and Grid Impact Analysis,” addresses critical challenges in modern power systems. As renewable energy sources increasingly replace traditional generation, power systems rely more on power electronic converters, introducing new complexities such as instability, voltage and frequency fluctuations, and protection challenges.
Her research develops advanced converters designed to actively support the grid rather than simply follow it. Inspired by conventional synchronous machines, these converters help regulate voltage and frequency, improve system stability, and provide vital support during peak demand, disturbances, and microgrid operation. The work also demonstrates their role in black-start system restoration following power outages.
Biqi will begin her professional career as a Modeling and Simulation Product Development Engineer at TMEIC Corporation Americas, where she will continue contributing to advancements in power electronics and energy systems.
Through rigorous simulation and experimental validation, Dr. Wang’s work offers practical guidance for building more resilient, reliable, and sustainable power systems. CPES celebrates her accomplishments and looks forward to her continued success!
